Vanessa grew up in Australia, but her love affair with Japan began with what was meant to be a short visit. Instead, she stayed for 10 years, living in Hiroshima and teaching English at a Japanese kindergarten. Those 10 years immersed in Japanese life sparked a lifelong passion for sharing the country with others. After returning to Australia, she has worked as a travel consultant with a leading Japan travel agency, and in the broader field of destinations around the world. Her genuine passion for Japan has ultimately led her to Journey to the East, where she looks forward to helping you create unforgettable travel experiences.
Vanessa’s favourite thing about Japan is its beautiful juxtaposition between timeless tradition and whimsical modern culture. She feels just as at home wandering the peaceful streets of Miyajima or taking in the natural beauty of Takachiho Gorge as she does embracing the colourful, quirky fun of Sanrio Puroland or the whimsical Kawaii Monster Café. To her, every corner of Japan offers its own unique sense of wonder.
Outside of work, Vanessa enjoys live music, theme parks, spending time at the beach, and continuing to build on her Japanese language skills.
Vanessa dreams of one day owning a small bed and breakfast in one of Japan’s picturesque ski regions or on the beautiful Okinawan Islands. Her hope is to continue welcoming travellers while sharing the warmth and care of omotenashi—the Japanese philosophy of wholehearted hospitality—and helping others create lasting memories of this extraordinary country.
