Tour Overview

This private extension is ONLY available with any of the scheduled Journey to the East Small Group Tours or as an add-on to a Private Tour.

Lake Kawaguchiko is one of the Fuji Five Lakes located on the northern side of Mt Fuji. The lakes were formed by Mt Fuji’s volcanic activity some 15,000-20,000 years ago. Depending on the season, Lake Kawaguchiko can be surrounded by beautiful flowers or gorgeous autumn foliage.

Apart from the view of Mt Fuji, Lake Kawaguchiko is a great place for art museum hopping including the magnificent Itchiku Kubota kimono art museum along with the photography studios, lovely hand-made dolls and musical instrument displays.

Onsen, the hot mineral spa bath, is another attraction here. Almost all accommodation has their own onsen, some with a great view of Mt Fuji from the bath.

It is only a couple of hours from Tokyo, and well-worth an overnight trip (or more). This model itinerary, 2 Days in Kawaguchiko will show you some examples of what you can do in Kawaguchiko in two days.

Important notes about our model itineraries:

Our model itineraries are developed to show viewers the ideas for an itinerary and price guide. The itineraries can be further customized, and the accommodation and guide time can be adjusted to suit you. The number of people in your group will affect the price, too. We will give you more firm quotation once we develop your personal itinerary.

Itinerary

Day 1: Guided tour of Kawaguchiko

Take lovely local trains from Tokyo to this small town of Kawaguchiko at the foot of Mt Fuji. On arrival we recommend a local specialty noodle dish, 'Hoto', for lunch. It is made with lots of vegetables and hearty thick flat noodles in miso based broth. It is so yummy and satisfying! In the afternoon, we will plan a program according to your interests and weather. You may like to go up to an excellent viewing spot of Mr Fuji by Kachi Kachi yama Ropeway, or take a boat on the lake. There are many small art museums along the lake, too.

Tonight, you can stay in either Japanese style or western style accommodation, but you must try onsen either way! Your guide will assist you with checking in and leave you at the end of the day.
